Details Matter
It’s here - first day of pre-season soccer training camp!
Are you ready, Coach? Of course you are! You’ve been planning since the spring season ended - if not before. You know what you want to teach and how you want your team to perform.
I know there is so much you want to accomplish in this short training window. With the first exhibition about 10 days away and your first game a mere one week later, it’s never enough time. And once it starts, the season will fly by.
Whether you are a seasoned head coach or it is your first time on the pitch in this role these first few weeks are critical.
Setting clear expectations for your team and staff is vital and holding everyone to those expectations, including yourself, is non-negotiable if you wish to have success. No blind eyes! Details Matter!
Being intentional and paying attention to the execution of details will pay great dividends, especially in these early days. Being present, focused and disciplined are key drivers that will help develop good habits. Doing this early and often while holding each other accountable for getting the details right will lead to long term success.
Coaches, be clear about your expectations and continually talk about those expectations. When slippage happens, and it will happen, address it immediately. No blind eyes! Details Matter!
